Microcrystalline wax for moisture and oil resistance
The moisture and oil repellency of microcrystalline wax primarily stems from its chemical inertness and physical barrier properties. It forms a continuous, dense coating that effectively blocks the penetration of moisture and oils. In the packaging sector, microcrystalline wax is extensively employed for wax coating paper and cardboard. For instance, coating packaging paper with microcrystalline wax significantly enhances moisture resistance and oil repellency. This makes it suitable for applications such as frozen food cardstock and corrugated boxboard, preventing contents from becoming damp or oil-permeated. In food packaging, it is also employed in milk cartons, meat coatings, and bread wrapping paper, serving to isolate against moisture and oil penetration.
