Icodextrin/Extraneal CAS comes in two sizes: pharmaceutical grade (for peritoneal dialysis and ointments) and cosmetics (for skin care products such as masks).
Peritoneal dialysis refers to the use of the patient's own peritoneum as a dialysis membrane to filter blood in the abdominal cavity to remove toxins, metabolic wastes and excess water from the body. Peritoneal dialysis is one of the main methods of renal replacement therapy in patients with end-stage renal disease, because it is safe, effective, simple to operate, and can be treated at home, and has been widely used. At present, peritoneal dialysis uses glucose as a penetrant, but glucose is easily absorbed by the peritoneum, which can cause a series of problems. Icodextrin peritoneal dialysate compensates for the limitations of traditional glucose peritoneal dialysis in the past and will benefit patients with end-stage renal disease.
Icodextrin peritoneal dialysate uses macromolecular dextran as a penetrant, which is not easy to be absorbed by the peritoneum, and can achieve long-term stable ultrafiltration, which is an innovative drug suitable for the prevention and treatment of fluid overload in peritoneal dialysis patients. In addition to the good ultrafiltration effect, the peritoneal dialysate of icodextrin can achieve long-term stable ultrafiltration, and its abdominal retention time can reach 8 to 16 hours, which can effectively reduce the number of peritoneal dialysis per day and improve the quality of life of patients.
