1.3 Glass-Applied Thermosetting Powder Coating

1.7 MT-D1036 Gloss Architectural Powder Coating

1.7.1 Product Description

MT-D1036 Gloss is a range of powder coatings intended for use on architectural aluminium and galvanized steel. MT-D1036 Gloss has been specifically formulated without the use of TGIC. As part of the MT-D1036 series of architectural powders, MT-D1036 Gloss gives excellent exterior durability and colour retention and conforms to the requirements of all the major European architectural finishing standards. All MT-D1036 Gloss powders are lead-free and meet the requirements of GSB Florida 1. Qualicoat Class 1. EN12206. and EN13438 (formerly BS6496 &BS6497), and AAMA 2603.

1.7.4 Pre-treatment

For maximum protection it is essential to pretreat components prior to the application of the powdercoating. Aluminium components should receive a full multi-stage chromate conversion coating or suitable chrome-free pre-treatment or suitable pre-anodising to clean and condition the substrate. Detailed advice should be sought from the pre-treatment supplier. Galvanised steel requires surface preparation by either multi-stage pretreatment using either zinc phosphate or chromate conversion or controlled sweep blasting. Depending on the type of galvanizing, degassing or use of anti-bubbling additives may be required – follow the procedural advice of the pretreatment supplier. The products may also be used on cast or mild steel. For outdoor use MT-PZ anti-corrosive primer over a correctly prepared substrate is recommended.

1.7.5 Application

Powders can be applied by manual or automatic electrostatic spray equipment. This product should be applied at minimum 60μm. All powders can show small color differences from batch to batch, this is normal and unavoidable. Bonded products have better application properties than blended products (more stable) but attention should still be paid to line settings in order to avoid “marble effect” and changes in aspect after recycling.

Products with different codes should not be mixed even if same colour and gloss. Different substrates (aluminium, steel, galvanized steel…), use of primer, and big changes in aspect after recycling. Acrylic transparent powder coating should be stored in a dry, ventilated room below 25℃, and avoid direct sunlight. 7. Application Conditions

7.1 Standard Powder Coating

7.2 Magic Color Metal Powder Coating - Guide to Use

7.2.1 Curing conditions

200℃/10min; In order to make the coating film of the coated object cure evenly and the gloss stable, it is best to make the temperature distribution in the baking furnace uniform; and reasonably control the curing temperature and time according to the situation of the workpiece.

7.2.2 Pretreatment

The workpiece must be pretreated before spraying, and it must comply with the provisions of Chapter 5 of GB/T 8013.3-2007. The mass of the chromate conversion film should be between 0.4 and 1.0 g/㎡. The time interval between chemical conversion pretreatment and coating should not exceed 16 hours. In principle, coating should be applied immediately after the conversion treatment is dry.

7.2.3 Workpiece hanging

When hanging the workpiece, hang it reasonably according to the shape and thickness of the workpiece to improve the powdering rate and yield; and pay attention to keeping the spraying system and the surrounding environment clean to prevent different brands of powder coating from mixing and affecting the surface effect of the coating.

7.2.4 Powder spraying

Choose reasonable process parameters, control the voltage, air pressure and powder output. The powder spraying environment should preferably have a temperature and humidity control system. The optimal powder spraying temperature is 15-25℃, and the relative air humidity of the powder spraying room is preferably 45%-55%; in addition, the proportion of recycled powder should be controlled to ensure the color stability of the product.

The recommended coating thickness is 60-80um, otherwise it will affect the performance of the coating.

During the film formation process, the color will be slightly affected by process conditions such as temperature and thickness. It is recommended that users conduct tests before use to achieve satisfactory results.
