Butyrolactone (γ-butyrolactone or )is ahygroscopic colorless liquid with aweak characteristic odor which is soluble in water.is acommon solvent and reagent in chemistry as well as being used as aflavouring, as acleaning solvent, as asuperglue remover, and as asolvent in some wet aluminium electrolytic capacitors. Butyrolactone has been found in extracts from samples of unadulterated wines.[3] This finding indicates that Butyrolactone is anaturally occurring component in some wines and may be present in similar products.
