Brass ball valves refer to ball valves made of brass material as the valve body and ball. Brass is the alloy that is made up of copper and zinc. It is called normal brass if it is made up of copper and zinc only. And it is called special brass if it is made of multiply of alloys who is made up of more than two elements.

Brass ball valve is evolved from plug, the opening and closing body is a ball, it realizes the opening and closing via the ball rotates 90˚around the axis of stem. It can be divided into floating ball valve and fixed ball valve according to supporting method of the ball. It’s mainly used for cutting off, distributing and change the flow direction of media, the open ball valve designed to V shape also has good flow regulation function.

Brass Ball Valves Advantages

The main advantages of brass ball valves as: tight structure; reliable sealing; simple structure; easy maintenance; not easy to get corroded by the media when the sealing surface and ball surface is under closed state, and easy to operate and maintain, applicable for normal media like water, solvent, acid and natural gas etc., and applicable for the media under hostile environment, like oxygen, hydrogen peroxide, methane and ethylene etc., and widely used in all kinds of industries. The valve body of ball vale can be complete or combined.

There is cast iron, brass, WCB, stainless steel, alloy steel, PVC, ABS and etc. materials to make ball valves, brass ball valve is normally used for household water pipe or low pressure and small size valve used in gas pipe. The fabrication is simple, and price is low, brass is more expensive than steel, while cheaper than stainless steel.

Brass vs Bronze Ball Valves

Brass is the alloy consisting with copper and zinc. It is called normal brass if it consists with copper and zinc only. And it is called special brass if it consists with multiple alloys constituting by more than two elements.

Bronze originally means copper-tin alloy, and then all the copper alloys except brass and white brass are called bronze. And usually put the first main adding element before bronze.

Brass has strong wear-resistance, and is often used to make valves, water pipes, connecting pipes for A/Cs and radiators etc.. brass valve can be forged and used under high pressure situation.

Bronze has low melting point, large hardness, malleable, wear-resistance, corrosion-resistance, bright color etc., often used to make tools, mechanic accessories, bearing, gear etc.. bronze valve can be casted and cannot be used under high pressure situation.

Bronze has good wear-resistance, brass is less wear-resistant than bronze. While the tenacity of brass is better than bronze, so brass valve is easier to fabricate.

Brass is less corrosion-resistant than bronze, has poor service life compared with bronze valve.

Normally the brass is cheaper than bronze.
