Becausetheprimarypurposeofablow-off valveisremovalofdirt,sedimentandscale,theboilercoderequiresthatvalveswhichhavedamsorpocketsinwhichsedimentcanaccumulatecannotbeusedinblow-offservice.Thismeansthatordinaryglobevalvescannotbeusedasblow-offvalves.
