Taber oscillation and wear instrumentis used to test the transparency of materials and coatings on glass, lenses, and to evaluate the abrasion resistance of organic coatings, plastics, metals and other materials.

Taber oscillation and wear instrument is also commonly referred to as "sand oscillator".
