Application
This benchtop-style tester allows operators to assess the decrease in webbing strength after repeated abrasion cycles. During the test, the webbing specimen is scraped against a coarse material for a specified number of cycles—typically 2.500 or more—and then examined for visible damage and tensile strength reduction.
The tester is ideal for automotive manufacturers, component suppliers, and research laboratories for quality control, product certification, and safety verification of webbing materials.
Standards
The tester complies with major international and automotive standards for seatbelt and webbing testing, including:
FMVSS 209 — Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard for Seatbelt Assemblies
ASTM D6770 — Standard Test Method for Abrasion Resistance of Textile Webbing
FED STD 191 — Federal Standard Test Methods for Textile Fabrics
MIL-232223B / MIL-T8363B — Military Standard for Webbing Materials
SAE J339 — Automotive Seatbelt Performance Standard
S5 1(d) — Durability Test Requirement
Designed specifically to meet FMVSS 209 requirements, this tester addresses the three core criteria of strength, performance, and durability for seatbelt components.
Test Procedures
Install the seat belt fabric sample in the fixture and ensure it is securely fixed.
Adjust the friction device so that it contacts the fabric properly.
Set the desired cycle count and start the automated test program.
The test stops automatically when the cycle count is reached.
Inspect the sample visually and perform strength tests to evaluate abrasion performance.
Compare pre- and post-test results to assess material durability.
Maintenance Information
Keep friction surfaces clean and free from debris.
Inspect fixtures and moving parts for wear regularly.
Calibrate electronic counter periodically to ensure accuracy.
Ensure safe operation and avoid contact with moving components during testing.
Store the tester in a dry, dust-free environment to prolong lifespan.
