Usage:

Benazepril, brand nameLotensin(Novartis), is a drug of theangiotensin

-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitorclass used primarily in treatment ofhypertension,

congestive heart failure, andheart attacks, and also in preventingrenaland

retinalcomplications ofdiabetes. Its indications,contraindicationsand side

effects are as those for allACE inhibitors. The drug is a precursor of the active

agent, which is metabolized by theliverinto its active form. Upon cleavage of its

estergroup benazepril is converted into benazeprilat, its active form, which is

a non-sulfhydryl angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor.
