2、Electrophoresis (KTL)
Electrophoresis (cathodic dip coating), another German name KTL-Beschichtung (Kathodische Tauchlackierung) is a widely used surface treatment process. It mainly plays the role of substrate anti-corrosion and surface decoration.
Electrophoresis was first used for automotive. Later, as the application range became wider and wider, it was also extended from the automotive industry to motorcycles, home appliances, and various industries, such as air conditioners, glasses, locks, lamps and other industrial products.
The electrophoresis process, in which the workpiece is placed in a solution, paint particles are attracted to the metal workpiece and accumulate on its surface, forming a uniform, continuous film over the entire surface. This process continues until the desired film thickness is reached, which is controlled by current and time, with higher current and longer time making the film thicker.
The electrophoresis process is divided into anodic electrophoresis and cathodic electrophoresis. If the paint particles are negatively charged, the workpiece is the anode, and the paint particles are deposited on the workpiece to form a film under the action of the electric field force, which is called anodic electrophoresis. On the contrary, if the paint particles are positively charged, the workpiece is the cathode, and the paint particles are deposited on the workpiece, it is cathodic electrophoresis.
