Sorbitan monooleatesurfactant, also known as sorbitan oleate/SMO, is synthesized by the esterification of sorbitan with oleic acid. It has a molecular formula of C24H44O6 . At room temperature, it is in the form of amber to brown thick oily liquid. Sorbitan monooleate is a W/O emulsifier with an sorbitan monolaurate hlbvalue of 4.3.
