Main role
The filter, as its name implies, is a device that filters the waves. Wave is a very broad physical concept. In the field of electronic technology, "wave" is narrowly confined to describing the process of fluctuating the value of various physical quantities with time. Like Butterworths response to maximizing the flatness of the band, the Bessel response minimizes the phase nonlinearity of the passband.
Chebyshev response

If you can accept a band with some ripples, you can get a faster attenuation than the Butterworth filter. Appendix A contains a table for the parameters designed for up to 8 orders of Butterworth, Bessel, and schibershev response filter.
