The SFP optical module transceiver inherits the hot-swap characteristics of GBIC and also borrows the advantages of SFF miniaturization. Small Form Factor Pluggable (SFP) is a optical transceiver module that plug into an SFP port on an Ethernet switch or ethernet media converter. SFP optical transceiver facilitates seamless conversion of Ethernet signals into optical signals to transfer and receive data.
SFP optical transceiver have largely replaced the older GBIC modules across various applications due to their diminutive size. This size advantage enables SFP optical transceiver to function effectively in constrained networking environments, facilitating rapid data communication between switches and critical networking components.
The SFP optical transceiver is composed of optoelectronic devices, functional circuits, and optical interfaces. It includes two parts: transmitting and receiving. The transmitting part is mainly composed of a laser driver circuit and a laser. The receiving part is composed of a photodiode (PIN) + transimpedance amplifier (TIA) and a limiting amplifier (Limiting Amp.) to complete the function of transparent O/E, E/O conversion of digital signals.

The Classification of 1.25G SFP Optical Transceiver
The 1.25G SFP optical transceiver type can include various variations based on specific requirements and technologies. Here are some common types:
BIDI: BIDI SFP optical transceivers use a single fiber strand for both transmitting and receiving data. They are available in different wavelengths, such as 1310nm/1490nm or 1310nm/1550nm, allowing bidirectional communication over a single fiber. BIDI optical transceiver must be used in pairs.
Dual Fiber: Dual fiber SFP optical transceivers utilize separate fiber strands for transmitting and receiving data. They are commonly used in applications where dedicated fibers are available for both directions of communication.
CWDM: CWDM SFP optical transceivers support multiple wavelengths of light transmission, allowing for the simultaneous transfer of data over a single fiber. They typically operate within the CWDM wavelength range of 1270nm to 1610nm and offer cost-effective solutions for expanding network capacity.

DWDM: DWDM SFP optical transceivers also enable multiple wavelengths of light transmission, but with a higher density and narrower wavelength spacing compared to CWDM. DWDM technology allows for increased data capacity over long-distance fiber optic links by utilizing different wavelengths for different data channels.
