TEA, an organic compound, named N, N-diethylethanolamine under the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC), is a colorless, transparent liquid with a strong ammonia odor, and slightly fumes in the air. It is slightly soluble in water and soluble in alcohol and ether. Its aqueous solution is slightly alkaline. is a flammable, explosive, poisonous chemical and strong irritant. It is mainly used as a solvent, a curing agent, a catalyst, a polymerization inhibitor, a preservative, and a synthetic dye in the industry.
TEA is alkaline, reacting with inorganic acids to produce soluble salts. It is flammable and its vapor mixed with air can form an explosive mixture which explodes when exposed to fire or high heat energy. It can react with oxidants. Its vapor is heavier than air, thus it can spread to relatively far places at a lower level. When it encounters fire, it will fuel combustion. What's more, it is a corrosive substance.
