Calcium carbonateis a chemical compound with the formula CaCO₃.The thermodynamically stable form of CaCO₃ under normal conditions is hexagonal β-CaCO₃.Calcite, aragonite and vaterite are pure calcium carbonate minerals. Industrially important source rocks which are predominantly calcium carbonate include limestone, chalk, marble and travertine.
