Good resistance makes INCONEL suitable for Inconel pipe fitting in harsh environments at high temperatures and pressures. When the Inconel alloy is heated, a thick and stable oxide layer is passivated on the surface of the alloy to protect the interior of the alloy from corrosion. Whenever these common engineering metals encounter high temperatures, they usually start within the crystal. Defects can occur, which in turn can lead to severe creep. Depending on the model, Inconel alloys maintain good mechanical properties at elevated temperatures through solution strengthening or precipitation hardening.
