Chlortetracycline Premix 20%

Chlortetracycline Premix, also known as Chlortetracycline Premixture or Feed-Grade Chlortetracycline, is a veterinary product composed of the full fermentation broth of Chlortetracycline-producing bacteria mixed with an appropriate amount of calcium carbonate. It is primarily used in livestock and poultry farming as a feed additive or therapeutic prophylactic agent to promote growth, prevent, and treat diseases. Below is a detailed introduction to Chlortetracycline Premix:
I. Product Characteristics
1. Composition and Structure:
·The main ingredient is calcium chlortetracycline, a tetracycline-class antibiotic.
·In addition to calcium chlortetracycline, it contains inorganic matter, bacterial protein, moisture, vitamins, sugars, and other substances, making it a purely natural microbial full fermentation product, not chemically synthesized.
2. Physical Properties:
·Appearance: Brown or brownish powder or granules, without caking or mold, odorless.
·Melting point: 168–169°C (decomposition), very slightly soluble in water, soluble in salt solutions.
II. Mechanism of Action
Chlortetracycline Premix primarily exerts its antibacterial effect by inhibiting protein synthesis in susceptible microorganisms. The specific mechanisms include:
·Binding to the A-site of the 30S subunit of the microbial ribosome, thereby interfering with the binding of aminoacyl-tRNA to the 30S subunit, preventing aminoacyl-tRNA from entering the A-site on the mRNA, thus inhibiting the elongation of the polypeptide chain during protein synthesis.
·Preventing the release of synthesized polypeptide chains.
·Causing changes in cell membrane permeability, leading to leakage of nucleotides and other essential components from the cell, thereby inhibiting bacterial growth and reproduction.
III. Application Effects
1. Growth Promotion:
· In domestic and international livestock and poultry production, Chlortetracycline Premix is used at prophylactic doses (50–75mg/kg) in feed to promote growth, improve the absorption and utilization of protein and trace elements, and enhance the utilization rate of calcium and phosphorus.
2. Disease Prevention:
· Chlortetracycline Premix is effective against species of Rickettsia, Mycoplasma, Chlamydia, atypical Mycobacteria, and Spirochetes, and can prevent and treat various livestock and poultry diseases, such as swine erysipelas, swine pneumonia, pleuropneumonia, metritis, mastitis, and neonatal diarrhea.
· It is particularly effective in treating post-weaning piglet diarrhea, swine pneumonia, proliferative enteropathy, etc.
IV. Usage Method
The primary method of using Chlortetracycline Premix is by mixing it into the feed for animal consumption. The specific dosage should be determined based on the species of livestock or poultry, age, weight, and disease condition, following the veterinarian's prescription and the standards issued by the Ministry of Agriculture.
V. Precautions
1. Usage Contraindications:
·Chlortetracycline should not be used within two days before and ten days after vaccination against swine erysipelas.
·Chlortetracycline can form insoluble complexes with divalent metal ions like magnesium, calcium, aluminum, iron, zinc, and manganese, affecting drug absorption. Therefore, it should not be taken together with drugs, feed, or dairy products containing these divalent metal ions.
2. Antibiotic Resistance:
· Long-term use of Chlortetracycline Premix may lead to microbial resistance; therefore, it should be used rationally to avoid misuse.
In conclusion, Chlortetracycline Premix is a widely used veterinary product in livestock and poultry farming, offering multiple benefits in promoting growth, preventing, and treating diseases. However, attention should be paid to usage methods and precautions to ensure its safety and efficacy.
