Sodium Aluminate
SodiumAluminateis aninorganicchemical that is used as an effective source ofaluminium hydroxidefor many industrial and technical applications. PureSodiumAluminate(anhydrous) is a whitecrystallinesolid having a formula variously given as NaAlO2, NaAl(OH)4,Na2O·Al2O3, or Na2Al2O4. Commercial SodiumAluminateis available as a solution or a solid.
Is SodiumAluminatetoxic?
Odorless white powdered solid.Toxicby ingestion and corrosive to tissue. Used in water purification.
Uses
In water treatment it is used as an adjunct to water softening systems, as a coagulant aid to improveflocculation, and for removing dissolvedsilicaandphosphates.
In construction technology, SodiumAluminateis employed to accelerate the solidification ofconcrete, mainly when working during frost.
SodiumAluminateis also used in thepaper industry, forfire brickproduction, alumina production and so forth.
