Functional Additives for Friction Material

Natural Flake Graphite (Friction Modifier & Solid Lubricant)
Natural flake graphite is widely used as a solid lubricant in friction materials. Its layered crystal structure allows easy shear between planes, reducing friction and stabilizing the coefficient of friction during braking. It also helps improve fade resistance at elevated temperatures and reduces noise and vibration during operation.
Calcium Hydroxide (Friction Stabilizer & pH Modifier)
Calcium hydroxide is used in friction formulations as a reactive mineral additive. It helps regulate the chemical environment of the composite, improves thermal stability, and contributes to consistent friction behavior under high-temperature braking conditions. It can also assist in neutralizing acidic byproducts formed during wear.
Talcum Powder (Talc) (Anti-wear & Lubricating Filler)
Talc is a lamellar magnesium silicate mineral that acts as a soft filler and anti-wear agent. Its plate-like structure enhances lubrication between contact surfaces, reduces abrasive wear, and improves machinability of the friction material. It also helps improve molding performance and dimensional stability of finished components.
