Sorbitanesters and Polysorbates as nonionicoffer many advantages over ionic surfactants including increase stability, enhance flexibility and provide wider compatibility. They are stable in mild acids, alkalis and electrolytes and do not react with ionic ingredients or actives.
What is polysorbate 85? Polysorbate 85 isalso known as polyoxyethylene 20 sorbitan trioleate/polyoxyethylene sorbitan trioleate, consists of sorbitol, ethylene oxide, and oleic acid. It has a molecular formula of C100H188O28. At room temperature, it is in the form of a pale-yellow to orange oily liquid. It is an O/W emulsifier with an HLB value of 11.0. It is soluble in ethanol, ethyl acetate, and acetone; it is also soluble in most mineral and vegetable oil. And it can disperse in water. In crude oil production, polysorbate 85 acts as an emulsifier, paraffin inhibitor.
