Natamycin Manufacturer
Natamycin is a polyene macrolide antibiotic produced by the fermentation of microorganisms such as Streptomyces natalensis and Streptomyces glaucescens.
Chemical structure: Its molecular structure contains multiple macrolide rings with conjugated double bonds, as well as multiple functional groups such as hydroxyl and ketone groups. This complex structure endows natamycin with unique physical and chemical properties, enabling it to effectively inhibit the growth of various fungi.
Antibacterial mechanism
Natamycin mainly inhibits the growth and reproduction of fungi by combining with ergosterol on the fungal cell membrane to form transmembrane channels, causing intracellular substances to leak out and destroying the integrity of the cell membrane. It has broad-spectrum antibacterial activity against fungi such as molds and yeasts, but is ineffective against bacteria and viruses.
