Theausteniticstainlesssteel310S(UNSS31008/AISI310S)hasabout25%Cr,0,6%Siand20%Ni.Thisgradeisknownforitsbehaviorofcorrosionresistanceathightemperature.Theadditionsofcarbonareoptimizedinordertoimproveitscreepdeformationresistance.Thesteelcaneasilybewelded.AISI310Sisprojectedforhightemperatureapplications,upto1100°C,inoxidatingatmospheres.

GradeAISI310Sismainlyusedathightemperatureduetoitscorrosionresistance.ThetypicalworkingtemperaturesforanatmospherewithmaximumSulfurcontentof2g/m3are1050℃(continuousservice)and1100℃(peaktemperature).Sulfurcontentshigherthan2g/m3decreasemaximumtemperatureto950℃.
Afteralongperiodofexposuretohightemperature,grade310Scanbesusceptibletointergranularcorrosionduetoprecipitationofchromiumcarbides.Anyway,thisgradeisresistanttoelectrochemicalcorrosionduetoitshighcontentofchromiumandnickel.

Grade310Scanbeweldedusingthemajorityofweldingprocesses:TIG,MIG,plasma,submergedarc,coatedelectrodeandtubularwire.TheelectrodesAWS/ASMEE310-15orwiresAWS/ASMEER310arecommonlyused.Fortheweldingofthefinishingpass,theuseofAWS/ASMEE309-15orwiresAWS/ASMEER309isrecommended.Ifthefluidityoftheweldpoolisaproblem,theuseoffillermetalswithsilicon(ER309LSiorER309Si)arerecommended.
