The nano-porous structure of aerogel makes its thermal conductivity extremely low (at room temperature, the thermal conductivity can be as low as below 0.015W/ (m·K)). A coating thickness of only 0.5-2mm can achieve several times the insulation effect of traditional insulation materials, and it is also lighter in weight. Some aerogel coatings have been modified with hydrophobicity, and the surface contact Angle can reach over 120°, which can be used in humid environments or oily scenarios to prevent the decline of insulation performance due to water absorption. Inorganic aerogels (such as silica aerogels) are non-flammable by themselves and can withstand high temperatures ranging from 200 to 600℃ (depending on the formula), meeting the fire protection requirements in the construction or industrial fields. It can be applied by brushing, spraying and other methods, and is suitable for complex surfaces (such as pipes and irregular components). After drying, it forms a continuous and dense coating, avoiding the joint heat loss problem of traditional insulation materials.
