Plastic Injection Molding Services

is the most cost-effective method for mass producing plastic parts. The injection molding process involves injecting molten plastic into a mold and then ejecting the solidified part. The process is quickly repeated hundreds or thousands of times, amortizing the cost of the mold and reducing the cost per part to a few dollars or less. Because the injection molding process uses the same mold for every part, the quality of each part is consistent. Injection molding also has the most diverse range of materials, colors, finishes, finishes, and surface textures compared to CNC machining and even 3D printing.

Plastic Injection Molding Process

Plastic injection molding is the process of filling a mold with liquid plastic resin under high pressure. The tool may contain one cavity or hundreds of cavities to make an unlimited number of parts. Once the mold has been carefully designed and manufactured, the molding process consists of the following basic steps:

Step 1 – The plastic resin comes in the form of raw pellets. These pellets are dried to the right moisture content and then, if necessary, can be mixed with pigments or masterbatch colorants to produce the right color for the design.

Step 2 – The dried pellets are poured into the hopper of the molding machine. A reciprocating screw inside the barrel of the machine is used to transport these pellets into the mold while heating them.

Step 3 – Inside the barrel, the pellets are mixed and heated until they are completely melted, forming a liquid resin.

Step 4 – The heated mold automatically closes and the resin is injected into the mold cavity through the gate under great pressure.

Step 5 – The mold cools down in a short period of time to solidify the part inside.

Step 6 – The mold opens, the part is ejected, and a new cycle begins.
