Pharmacological Action:
Spectinomycin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that exhibits moderate inhibitory effects against various gram-negative bacteria such as E. coli, Salmonella, Shigella, Proteus, etc. It is effective against Streptococcus, Pneumococcus, Staphylococcus, and some mycoplasma (such as Mycoplasma gallisepticum, Mycoplasma meleagridis, Mycoplasma synoviae) infections. However, it is not effective against Enterococcus faecalis and Staphylococcus aureus. It is usually resistant to Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Spirochaetes.
