Microcrystalline wax used for enhancing the flexibility of the adhesive
Primary Functions in Adhesives
Enhancing Flexibility and Toughness: After curing or cooling, the crystalline network of microcrystalline wax absorbs and disperses external stresses, preventing brittle cracking of the adhesive layer. It significantly improves impact resistance, particularly at low temperatures.
Regulates Open Time and Cure Rate: In hot melt adhesives, microcrystalline wax modulates melt viscosity, influencing the flow and penetration of the adhesive after application. This controls workability time and cure speed.
Enhances Surface Properties: Microcrystalline wax migrates slightly to the adhesive surface, providing anti-blocking properties, slip resistance, and gloss.
Cost reduction: As a petroleum-derived hydrocarbon, microcrystalline wax serves as an economical filler/modifier. It can partially replace more expensive polymer resins without significantly compromising core performance.
