COMBINATION OCTANE RATING UNIT

Combination (Research & Motor Method) Octane Rating Unit FTC-M1is a complete system for octane determination, conforming to ASTM D 2699 (ISO 5164) and ASTM D 2700(ISO 5163) Standard Test Method for Knock Characteristics of Motor and /or Aviation Fuels by the Research and Motor Methods respectively. These methods are accepted worldwide as the standard for determining the octane quality of gasoline and fuel blending components.

The Combination Unit FTC-M1 provides the capability to switch between Research Method (RON) and Motor Method (MON) tests with minor equipment adjustments. With either method, testing capabilities cover the 40 -120 octane number range.

FTC-M1 Octane Engineis used for the determining and certifying the anti-knock characteristics of motor fuels. It applies to the user which has the requirements of wide source test samples, large test quantity, long continuous test time, such as large-scale Petrochemical Enterprises, Oil Depots, Petroleum products testing and analysis Laboratory and College.

Combination RON&MON Octane Rating Unit FTC-M1produces test results under these operating conditions:

--Working Range: 40-120 octane number

--Compression Ratio: 4:1-18:1

--Intake Air Temperature: 52°C±1°C (adjustable)

--Mixture Temperature: 149°C±1°C (adjustable)

--Engine Speed: 900±9 r/min (MON)

600±6 r/min (RON)

--Jacket Temperature: 100±1.5°C

--Spark Advance: 13° (RON)

26° at 5:1C.R.-Adjustable (MON)

--Oil Temperature: 57±8.5°C

--Dimensions: 1600H x 1500 L x 800 W

Research/ Motor Conversionis easily accomplished by the use of pole changing Dual-Speed motor provided with the unit to allow adjustment of engine speed to meet both Research (600 RPM) and Motor (900 RPM) specifications.

Compression Ratio (C.R.)is adjusted by the electric motor assembly, it is the most convenient method for turning the worm shaft in either direction to adjust engine cylinder height.

A variable Compression Cylinderallows the compression ratio to be changed during engine operation. The available range is 4:1 to 18:1, which allows testing a wide range of fuels.

Knock Measurement EquipmentA factory-calibrated, detonation meter converts changes in combustion knock to an analog signal (with knock intensity displayed on a scale of 0 to 100). The electronic equipment is cabinet mounted in the instrument panel and connected to a magnetostrictive pickup element mounted directly in the cylinder’s combustion chamber.

Four-bowis offered, as well as various carburetor cooling options.

C.R. Digital CounterandIgnition Timingare directly displayed on the control panel for easy reference and recording. The adjustable spark timing system is set in accordance with ASTM MON&RON methods.

Micrometeris installed for easy recording the compression ratios and improving reliability and accuracy of test results.

Safety Systemsprovide engine shut-down when any of these conditions are experienced: low oil pressure, loss of cooling water, or electrical overload of the synchronous/ reluctance motor.
