Wire Wrapped Water Well Strainer Screens are made by winding cold-rolled wire,approximately triangular in cross section, around a circular array of the longitudinal rods. The wire is attached to rods by welding, producing rigid one-piece units having high strength characteristics at minimum weights.

Diameter, Specific capacity and available drawdown indicate the productivity of a well to be expected.
If the pump is installed above the screen the rising velocity at the screen head should not exceed v = 1.75 meter/sec.
If the pump is installed below the screen in a pump sump then the screen diameter depends mainly on the pump size and the remaining annulus space between the screen and the riser pipe.
Screen length, once decided on the screen diameter the laminar flow conditions at the entrance of the screen determine the requested length. Screen length in the total height of a water bearing formation is - especially when using the con-slot screen - not necessary. The Kozeny concept of investigation for partial penetrated formation is an excellent practice to determine max. Necessary screen length.
