Isopropyl ether is a good solvent for animal, plant and mineral oils. It can be used to extract nicotine from tobacco. It is also a good solvent for paraffin and resin. Industrially, diisopropyl ether and other solvents are often used in paraffin-based oils. Dewaxing process. As a solvent, it is also used in pharmaceuticals, smokeless gunpowder, paints and paint cleaning. Diisopropyl ether has high octane and antifreeze properties and can be used as a gasoline blending agent. This product is easy to form peroxide, which will explode when shaken, often adding benzylaminophenol as a stabilizer. The anesthetic effect of diisopropyl ether is lighter than ether, but the duration of anesthesia is long.
It is also used as a solvent for the concentration recovery of dilute solutions of acetic acid or butyric acid, an extraction solvent for sodium thiocyanate in the wet acrylic fiber process.
