Ketoconazole is a pyrrole antifungal drug, which has an antibacterial effect on deeply infected fungi such as candida, pigmented fungi, coccidioides, Histoplasma, sporothrix, etc., and also has antibacterial activity against trichophyton.
Ketoconazole is suitable for the treatment of the following systemic fungal infections: 1. Candidiasis, chronic mucocutaneous candidiasis, oral candidiasis infection, urinary tract candidiasis infection, and chronic, recurrent vaginal candidiasis that is ineffective with local treatment. 2. Dermatitis blastomycosis. 3. Coccidioidomycosis. 4. Histoplasomasis. 5. Chromomycosis. 6. Paracoccidioidomycosis.
Dermatomycosis, tinea versicolor, and ringworm caused by skin fungi and yeasts, severe refractory skin infections that do not respond to topical treatment or oral griseofulvin, or that are difficult to receive griseofulvin treatment, can be treated with ketoconazole.
