1,3-Propane sultone CAS 1120-71-4
1.3-Propane sultone (1.3-PS), also known as 1.3-propanesultone or 1.3-propane sulfone inner ester, is a cyclic sulfone ester with the molecular formula C₃H₆O₃S and a molecular weight of 122.14 g/mol. It appears as a colorless to light yellow liquid or crystalline solid, with a melting point of 30–33°C and a boiling point of 180°C (30 mmHg). 1.3-PS is highly reactive, capable of introducing sulfonic acid groups via reactions with metal alkoxides, phenolates, amines, and alcohols under basic conditions. It is widely used as an organic synthesis intermediate, particularly in electrolytes for lithium-ion batteries to inhibit electrode surface side reactions and enhance battery performance. Additionally, 1.3-PS serves as a sulfonating agent in dyes, surfactants, and pharmaceuticals. However, its toxicity (IARC 2A carcinogen) necessitates strict handling protocols to avoid skin and eye contact.
Usage：Antibacterial synergist, combined with sulfonamides to enhance antibacterial effect, is also used in avian coccidiosis and intestinal bacterial infection.
