The introduction of light through the core of a building can transform what might otherwise be a dull claustrophobic interior. With the changing arc of the sun the effects of the light can add a welcome dimension to the interior. ●Glass can be used as a floor panel or stair tread and even provide fire protection. Safety is critical when glass is to be used in these situations. Breakage of the floor could result in a fall from a high level, or cause injury to the lower leg even when the drop is quite small. ●Unlike all types of monolithic glass, laminated glass remains intact when broken, this unique feature makes laminated glass the most suitable for glass floors and staircases. A laminated glass is always recommended to ensure that the failure of one of the panes does not lead to catastrophic failure.●Care has to be taken with the finished surface to avoid slipping. An etched, printed or patterned surface can improve grip and aid against slipping. Wet locations are particularly prone to slipping.
