Tips
How to distinguish the true from the false of black sesame
1. Look at the color. If it's all black, be careful!
True black sesame seeds come in three colors: Black / brown, and a few white. Most of them are black. Red color is caused by incomplete pigment development during the growth of sesame, while white color is caused by peeling off of the skin.
So, grab a handful of sesame, and find that every sesame is complete black, no doubt, it must be fake!
2. Whether there are brown (or white or yellow) embryo spots on the tip!
True black sesame has a white (or yellow) needle tip size at the place where it germinates, i.e. germ, which is the key to identification. If sesame is dyed, there must be no such embryo.
3. Rub it with hands to see if it is discolored.
If the color drops, it must be dyed. It can also be identified by wet handkerchief or paper towel. After rubbing on the wet paper towel, the real sesame seeds will not fade, otherwise it may be fake.
4. Put it into the water to see the color of the water.
If it turns black, it must be dyed. True black sesame water is light brown, because it contains red sesame, sesame skin is easy to fall off, and pigment is easy to dissolve in water, which is normal.
5. Soak the sesame seeds in water to see if they germinate.
This may take 1-2 days, and the dyed ones will not germinate no matter how many days.
