Pharmacological actions:
Spectinomycin belongs to the aminoglycoside class of antibiotics and has a moderate inhibitory effect on various Gram-negative bacteria such as E. coli, Salmonella, Shigella, and Proteus. It is sensitive to Streptococcus, pneumococcus, Staphylococcus aureus, and some Mycoplasma (such as Mycoplasma gallisepticum, Mycoplasma meleagridis, and Mycoplasma synoviae). It is generally not sensitive to Streptococcus viridans and Staphylococcus aureus. Pseudomonas aeruginosa and spirochetes are usually resistant to it.
Actions and Uses: Aminoglycoside antibiotic. Used for infections caused by Gram-negative bacteria and Mycoplasma.
