The larvae are 4.5-5.5 mm long, white, cylindrical and legless, with small, brown, chitinous heads and brown mandibles.Trees that are attacked or infested by I. duplicatus have discoloured crowns. The needles are lighter in colour, form mats and often fall to the ground. They are green and thus visible under the tree.
