Pall ring was developed by BASF in the 1940s on the basis of the Raschig ring. Through punching holes in the ring wall to greatly improve the inner space and surface, pall ring packing achieves some obvious advantage than Raschig ring, such as less airflow resistance, large flux, high separation efficiency and flexibility of operation,etc. Nowadays, Pall ring is widely used tower packing in fine chemical industry.

Types of Pall Ring Packing

Ceramic Pall Ring
Ceramic Pall Ring is a kind of random packing further developed based on Raschig Ring, with two layers of windows opened along its tube wall.

Metal Pall Ring
Metallic Pall Rings are an advancement on the Raschig Ring, with similar cylindrical dimensions but with two rows of punched out holes, with fingers or webs turned into the centre of cylinder.

Plastic Pall Ring

Features of Pall Ring Packing

Due to the opening of the ring wall of the Pall ring, the utilization rate of the space in the ring and the inner surface of the ring is greatly improved, the airflow resistance is small, and the liquid distribution is even. It has the advantages of large flux, low resistance, high separation efficiency and large operating flexibility. Under the same pressure drop, the processing capacity can be more than 50% larger than that of the Raschig ring.

Compared with the Raschig ring, this packing has the characteristics of large production capacity, strong resistance, and greater operating flexibility. Under normal circumstances, the treatment can be 50%-100% larger than the Raschig ring under the same pressure drop. And during the same treatment, the pressure drop ratio of Pall ring is 50%-70% smaller than that of the Raschig ring, the gas flux of the Pall ring can be increased by more than 50%, and the efficiency of the mass transfer equipment can be increased by about 30%. Pall ring is a widely used packing.
