Pharmacological Action: Oxytetracycline is a tetracycline antibiotic that works by reversibly binding to the receptor on the 30S subunit of bacterial ribosomes, interfering with the formation of the ribosome complex between tRNA and mRNA, inhibiting peptide chain elongation, and thus inhibiting protein synthesis. It rapidly suppresses the growth and reproduction of both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. There is cross-resistance between oxytetracycline and tetracycline. It is rapidly absorbed after oral administration, minimally affected by food, has high bioavailability, strong tissue penetration, and a long duration of effective blood drug concentration. The protein binding rate in pigs is 93%.
