Manufacture and use:

Argonisproduced industrially by the fractionaldistillation of liquid air.

Argonis mostlyused as an inert shielding gasin welding and other high-temperatureindustrial processes where ordinarily unreactive substances become reactive.

Argon atmosphere is used in graphite electric furnaces toprevent the graphite from burning.

Argon is also used in incandescent, fluorescent lighting, andother gas discharge tubes.

Argon makes a distinctive blue-green gas laser. Argon is alsoused in fluorescent glow starters.
