L-Methionine
As one of the nine essential amino acids, L-Methionine is a core building block for protein synthesis, serving two critical purposes: It acts as the "initiator amino acid" in the translation process: During protein synthesis, L-Methionine (linked to tRNA₁ᵐᵉᵗ) binds to the ribosome’s P-site to initiate the assembly of nascent peptide chains, making it indispensable for the synthesis of all structural proteins (e.g., muscle fibers, skin collagen, hair keratin) and functional proteins (e.g., enzymes, antibodies, hormones). It maintains amino acid balance: L-Methionine complements other essential amino acids (e.g., lysine, tryptophan) in the diet to ensure complete protein synthesis. Deficiency can limit overall protein production, leading to muscle wasting, skin lesions, and impaired tissue repair.
