- Weakly alkaline aqueous solutions reduce irritation: A 10% aqueous solution of Cystine Disodium Salt has a pH of 7.5–8.5, which is close to the physiological pH of the human body. This avoids the acidic irritation caused by free L-cystine (which forms acidic solutions) when administered orally or via injection, improving patient tolerance.
- High bioavailability via rapid dissolution: Its high water solubility ensures rapid dissolution in the gastrointestinal tract, leading to faster absorption and higher bioavailability compared to free L-cystine (which is poorly absorbed due to low solubility). This advantage is critical for nutritional supplements, where efficient absorption is required to meet the body’s demand for cystine—an essential amino acid for protein synthesis, glutathione production, and hair, skin, and nail health.
