Nisin Raw Material
The gut is the largest immune organ in the body, and gut microbiota balance directly impacts immune function. Nisin supports immunity through two key pathways:
- Mucosal immune activation: The gut mucosa (inner lining of the intestines) is the first line of defense against ingested pathogens. Nisin stimulates the production of secretory immunoglobulin A (sIgA)—a key antibody that coats the gut mucosa, preventing pathogens from adhering to epithelial cells and entering the bloodstream. In healthy adults, daily supplementation with nisin (800 IU/day) for 4 weeks increased salivary and fecal sIgA levels by 25–35%, according to a 2022 study inNutrients.
- Regulating systemic inflammation: Chronic low-grade inflammation (often driven by gut dysbiosis) impairs immune function and is linked to chronic diseases (e.g., obesity, type 2 diabetes). Nisin reduces inflammation by inhibiting the growth of pro-inflammatory pathogens and modulating immune cell activity. Preclinical studies in mice show that oral nisin reduces the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines (e.g., TNF-α, IL-6) in the gut and bloodstream, while increasing anti-inflammatory cytokines (e.g., IL-10), supporting a balanced immune response.
