Projections of molten metal drops at a point on a vertical oriented test specimen and measurement of the number of the drops required to cause a 40 K temperature rise in a sensor behind the specimen.
Application

Features
Drop guide to collect the drops and to guide them towards the vertically oriented test specimen.

Test Procedures
(1) Secure the vertically oriented test specimen in the holding frame.
(2) Adjust the motor feed rate according to material thickness and standard requirements.
(3) Set the oxygen and acetylene flow rates using the needle valves.
(4) Start the test and allow molten metal droplets to impact the specimen.
(5) Monitor the temperature rise behind the specimen until a 40 K increase is reached; record the number of droplets required.
(6) Compile results for material evaluation and certification purposes.
