The term aggregate generally refers to all types of sand, gravel and crushed stone, which are used in various construction applications and are the product of mines or quarries. The first operation is usually a jaw crusher; two plates are pushed together on a rotating basis to crush large rocks in the deposits. The conveyor belt sends the product to be screened and then resend to the cone crusher for larger particles.

Screening and sorting separate particles of similar size into piles. This is achieved by using industrial or vibrating screens or cloths.

The remaining larger particles are sent back to the cone crusher, breaks down the size furthermore. The products are then send the back to screening. For any larger sizes left on the top of the screen, this recirculation occurs repeatedly. In a rock quarry, recirculation through the cone crusher is even more common.

Depending on the type of product, washing cycles may also be included. The washed or removed gravel will remove any fine powder (dust, clay, fine particles).
