PMMA Scrap for sale, also known as Poly Methyl Methacrylate, is a transparent thermoplastic used as a lightweight and shatter-resistant alternative to glass. It is known commercially as Plexiglas, Acrylite, and Lucite.
Structure and Properties of PMMA
Non-Crystalline Polymer: PMMA is a non-crystalline polymer with excellent light transmittance.
Density and Specific Gravity: Ranges from 1.14 to 1.20 g/cm³, with a specific gravity of 1.19.
Light Transmittance: High light transmittance of 92%, ideal for applications requiring clarity.
Mechanical Strength: High mechanical strength, lightweight, provides UV protection, and resists outdoor aging, but has poor heat resistance and low impact intensity.
Insulating Properties: Excellent insulating properties.
General Performance
Transparency: Most transparent polymer among all transparent resins with 92% light transmittance at 3 mm thickness.
Low Atomization: Ensures clarity.
Mechanical Properties
Strength: Ten times higher mechanical strength than ordinary glass.
Surface Hardness: Close to aluminum, highest among transparent resins, excellent anti-wear properties.
Brittleness: Lightweight and brittle, prone to cracking or developing a silver appearance under stress.
Thermal Properties
Heat Resistance: Poor heat resistance, with a usage temperature limit of 80°C; can be improved through copolymerization or cross-linking.
Specific Heat: Lower than most thermoplastics, allowing rapid thermoplastic processing.
Cold Resistance: Maintains some degree of cold resistance, with minimal impact intensity variation at low temperatures (-50°C to -60°C).
