Joints and Fittings for Connecting Adjacent Pipes
Pipe joints
Pipe joints, also known as pipe couplers, are designed for coupling adjacent ends together tightly. Normally, pipe joints can be classified into two types - soil tight couplers and water tight coupler according to the places where they are located.
- Soil tight coupler, as its name implies, is designed to prevent surrounding backfill material from infiltrating into the pipe, especially those fine, granular backfill material like sands. In addition, if the flow of water rises and falls quickly, water may exude from the pipe, mix with surrounding backfill material and infiltrated back into the pipe carrying fine backfill particles. Therefore, a soil tight coupler is a must whencorrugated pipesare buried with fine material or flow increase and decrease quickly.
- If corrugated pipes are installed below the groundwater table, or these pipes are used to carry toxic pollutants, water tight couplers are necessary to prevent liquid from infiltration and seepage.
Various types of pipe joints are available including semi-corrugated, annular corrugated, flat type, hat type and universal type as shown in the following pictures. All of the pipe joints are galvanized for excellent rust and corrosion resistance.
