Pharmacological Action:
Neomycin belongs to the aminoglycoside class of antibiotics and has a similar antibacterial spectrum as kanamycin. It has a powerful antibacterial effect on most Gram-negative bacteria, such as Escherichia coli, Proteus, Salmonella, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and is also sensitive to Staphylococcus aureus. However, it is ineffective against resistant strains of bacteria such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Gram-positive bacteria (except Staphylococcus aureus), Rickettsia, anaerobic bacteria, and fungi.
