Production Process
Formation:
During the iron-making process in a blast furnace, molten iron and slag are produced. The slag, which is a by-product, consists mainly of silicates and alumina from the iron ore and fluxing agents like limestone.
The molten slag is rapidly cooled by quenching it in water or air, a process known as granulation, which forms glassy granules.
