Benzalkonium Chloride is a cationic surfactant, belonging to non-oxidizing bactericides. It has broad-spectrum and highly efficient bactericidal and algicidal capabilities, effectively controlling the reproduction of bacteria and algae as well as the growth of slime in water. It also has good slime-removal effects and certain dispersing and penetrating functions. At the same time, it has certain oil-removal, deodorizing capabilities and corrosion-inhibiting effects.
Benzalkonium chloride is of low toxicity and has no accumulation toxicity. It is soluble in water and is not affected by water hardness. Therefore, it is widely used in the circulating cooling water systems of industries such as petroleum, chemical engineering, power, and textiles to control the growth of bacteria and algae in the systems and has a specific effect on killing sulfate-reducing bacteria.
