Main role
The filter, as its name implies, is a device that filters the waves. Wave is a very broad physical concept. Chebyshev response

If you can accept a band with some ripples, you can get a faster attenuation than the Butterworth filter. Appendix A contains a table for the parameters designed for up to 8 orders of Butterworth, Bessel, and schibershev response filter.
