Hydrophobic Fumed Silica
SiSiB hydrophobic silicas are treated with reactive silanes or silicone fluids, like chlorosilanes, hexamethyldisilazane and polydimethysiloxane.
Hydrophobic fumed silica is generally a post-treated product. SiSiB hydrophobic silicas is produced by the chemical reaction of hydrophilic silica with reactive silanes or silicone fluids, like chlorosilanes, hexamethyldisilazane and polydimethysiloxane. They have water-repellent properties and are no longer dispersible in water.
SiSiB fumed silicas are widely used in silicone adhesives & sealants, silicone elastomers, coatings & inks, composites, personal care cosmetics and fire extinguisher. They are used to for rheology control (thickening, anti-sag, anti-setting, thixotropy), reinforcing (improve strength).
Hydrophobic silicas are very effective thixotropic in polar adhesives and sealants like isocyanate resins, epoxy resins, silicone resins, polyurethane resins and vinylester resins. And they can be used for reinforcing silicones without thickening.
Additionally, SiSiB hydrophobic fumed silica improves the water resistance of moisture-sensitive formulations such as cosmetic preparations and flowability of powders.
